Potential Research Topic (Animal Rights)

Animal Rights:
Another research topic I am interested in is animal rights. Many animals are getting abused everyday and it is unfair. They do not have a say so we are their voice. I want to help animals in every way I can. I love animals and will do anything to protect them. They are like people so they have rights also. Some people do not see that they have rights because they are not a person. I want to show people that yes animals do have rights and it is important not to abuse them.

Source Citation: "Animal Rights." Opposing Viewpoints Online Collection. Detroit: Gale, 2014. Opposing Viewpoints in Context. Web. 5 Oct. 2015.

Summary:

This reading is about how some people see that animals should be given the same protection that people get but then there are other people that don't see it that way. The cofounder of the animal rights group PETA says that animals are more like people than objects. This statement is debated by many people.

Two Details:

There is a difference between animal welfare and animal rights.  Animal welfare is when animals deserve certain level of protection from pain caused by humans.

There is an organization called Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals that is making an increase in public awareness to the abuse and neglect of animals.

Questions:

What are some cases that show animal rights have been neglected?

What are some types of animal rights that help protect animals from being abused?

A word I don't understand: Domestic animals

What is stopping you from understanding the word:

How the word is used in the paper is making me confused.

Definition: of or relating to the running of a home or to family relations. An animal of a species of vertebrates that has been domesticated by humans so as to live and breed in a tame condition and depend on humankind for survival.

Questions you can pose to peers in discussion:
If you see an animal being abused would you say something?

  1. Another great piece of writing Christina! It always works out better for us when we write/research about topics that we are passionate about.
