Potential Research Topic (Cyber-bullying)

Cyber-bullying;

Cyber-bullying is another research topic I am interested about. Many children are being bullied over the internet. Bullying is happening over the internet because the bully is to scared to say it to the targets face and they feel more powerful behind a computer screen. People think they can get away with bullying when it comes to the internet because you are seen as anonymous. The truth is that you are no anonymous the authorities can track down the computer where the cyber-bullying is happening and find the person behind the computer screen. It is unfair the children and teens are being bullied in school and on the internet where everyone can see it. Cyber-bullying needs to come to a stop.

Summary:

This article is about how children and teens are being bullied through the internet it is called cyber-bullying. Cyber-bullying is when there is use of the internet, cell phones or any other type of electronic devices that are used to send around embarrassing or harmful information about a person. Some forms or types of cyber-bullying is sending texts, videos, or photos out of another person to hurt them. The internet has a way to find the difference between cyber-bullying and cyber-harassment. There are many different forms of cyber-bullying like sending out multiple e-mails to not be linked directly to the bullying, or  to send out threats, make sexual remarks and make a website to embarrass the victim even more.

Two Details:

In the United States there is a large percent of children and teens being cyber-bullied. The children and teens would get e-mails or sent the website that was made to embarrass them.

Research has found that teens who involve themselves with the internet like making blogs or creating Facebook and MySpace accounts that allows them to put their information up are more likely to become a victim of cyber-bullying.

Questions:

How is cyber-bullying being put to a stop?

What is the percentage of teens being cyber-bullied in the United States?

A word I don't understand:  Pervasive

What is stopping you from understanding the word:  I never heard of this word.

Definition:  Spread throughout.

Question you can pose to peers in discussion:

What things would you do to try and prevent cyber-bullying?

Potential Research Topic (Bullying)

Bullying:

Another research topic I am interested about is bullying. There are many children who are being bullied in school, over social media and much more. It is unfair that children and teens are being bullied no one should ever have to go through something like this.  Children and teens should not be bullied in school.  School is a place to get away from home and learn. School is not a place to be harassed or made fun of its a place to go learn. Bullying starts because the bully is jealous of something the victim has or does. Bullying is all about jealousy and that is not right. Everyone is different and no one should be picked on for being different it is good to be different than everyone else.

Source Citation: "Bullying." Opposing Viewpoints Online Collection. Detroit: Gale, 2015. Opposing Viewpoints in Context. Web. 8 Oct. 2015.

Summary:

This article is about how bullying has been around for many years. It is said the bullying has existed as long as schools themselves. Bullying back then was known as schoolyard fights. Now it is known as bullying. Bullying has become much more serious in the past few years. Children and teens are going towards violence as the solution. The person being bullied would fight who is harassing him/her. Another way teens will find a solution to stop being bullied is suicide. In the past years there have been many suicides or attempted suicides that bullying is on a high alert. Parents, educators, and law enforcement experts are trying to put a stop to all of this.

Two Details:

The top type of bullying is at school. Bullying at school is to try a humiliate their target in front of their peers because they feel more powerful and collier.

The targets of bullying are students that are either "weird", new, different, have health or learning disabilities, and have no social group. These type of students are seen as the easy targets.

Questions:

What are ways to prevent bullying in schools?

How many bullying cases happen in schools?

A word I don't understand: Speculated

What is stopping you from understanding the word:

I have never heard of the word and still don't understand it in the reading.

Definition: form a theory or conjecture about a subject without firm evidence.

Question you can pose to peers in discussion:

What are things that you would do to stop bullying in schools?

Potential Research Topic (Child Abuse)

Child Abuse:

Child abuse is another research topic I am interested about. I love working with children and care about them. Child abuse is a serious thing. No child should be abused at home, in school or anywhere. Every child should be loved and supported by a great family. Not everyone is lucky to have a supporting loving family but that does not mean a child should be abused.  I want to make a difference for children who do not have a good family life style.  I enjoying working with children and just making them have something positive in their life.

Source Citation:  "Child Abuse." Opposing Viewpoints Online Collection. Detroit: Gale, 2014. Opposing Viewpoints in Context. Web. 8 Oct. 2015.

Summary:

This article is about how over the year there has been a study showing that there has been hundreds of thousands of children in the United States of America who have been abused. The types of abuses are physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. Child abuse is a very serious thing and is noticed by the public but there are many cases that have not been noticed or unreported. The cases that are noticed by authorities do not have much of a result for the children. There are cases that had no charges to the adult who "abused" the child. The reason for this is because there are questions like what is consider to be child abuse, how to report suspected abuse, and what are the right steps go about child abuse. Child abuse had been debated among many different kinds of people.

Two Details:

The types of abuse have been debated by many people but sexual abuse is seen as child abuse. This is a type of abuse because if someone sexually assault's or causes physical pain to a child is declared as child abuse.

The types of child abuse is debated by many because many people have different religions, morals, and cultures. So different people don't agree about what is child abuse base on what they believe in. Some people see spanking as child abuse some do not see it as child abuse.

Questions:

About how many child abuse cases are unreported?

What are some ways to help prevent child abuse cases from increasing?

A word I don't understand: Remedy

What is stopping you from understanding the word:

I heard of the word and know the definition but the definition I know does not sound right when I read the sentence in the article.

Definition: a medicine or treatment for a disease or injury.

Question you can pose to peers in discussion:

What is your opinion on child abuse?

Potential Research Topic (Animal Rights)

Animal Rights:
Another research topic I am interested in is animal rights. Many animals are getting abused everyday and it is unfair. They do not have a say so we are their voice. I want to help animals in every way I can. I love animals and will do anything to protect them. They are like people so they have rights also. Some people do not see that they have rights because they are not a person. I want to show people that yes animals do have rights and it is important not to abuse them.

Source Citation: "Animal Rights." Opposing Viewpoints Online Collection. Detroit: Gale, 2014. Opposing Viewpoints in Context. Web. 5 Oct. 2015.

Summary:

This reading is about how some people see that animals should be given the same protection that people get but then there are other people that don't see it that way. The cofounder of the animal rights group PETA says that animals are more like people than objects. This statement is debated by many people.

Two Details:

There is a difference between animal welfare and animal rights.  Animal welfare is when animals deserve certain level of protection from pain caused by humans.

There is an organization called Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals that is making an increase in public awareness to the abuse and neglect of animals.

Questions:

What are some cases that show animal rights have been neglected?

What are some types of animal rights that help protect animals from being abused?

A word I don't understand: Domestic animals

What is stopping you from understanding the word:

How the word is used in the paper is making me confused.

Definition: of or relating to the running of a home or to family relations. An animal of a species of vertebrates that has been domesticated by humans so as to live and breed in a tame condition and depend on humankind for survival.

Questions you can pose to peers in discussion:
If you see an animal being abused would you say something?

Potential Research Topics (Animal Abuse/ Experimentation)

1. Animal Abuse/ Experimentation-
One of the research topics I am interested in is animal abuse.  I love animals and would love to help stop animal abuse.  By focusing on this topic I can help find ways to stop animal abuse.  There are many animals being abused and it is unfair that they cant fight back.  I want to fight for them no one should ever be beaten up for doing nothing. This deals with physical abuse experimentation and much more.

Source Citation: "Animal Experimentation." Opposing Viewpoints Online Collection. Detroit: Gale, 2015. Opposing Viewpoints in Context. Web. 2 Oct. 2015.

Summary:  This reading is about animal experimentation and how it is unfair to the animals.  In April 2011 Maria Cantwell introduced an act.  The act was called the Great Ape Protection and Cost Savings Ac.  If the act is passed then it will prohibit researchers to experiment on apes, gorillas and much more for medical research.

Two Details:
The making of the act would make the Secretary of Health and Human Services to have to retire all chimpanzees in the custody of federal government.

The idea for the act was help make funds within the Department of the Treasury to help construct, maintain, and operate sanctuary facilities for the great ape population which will be retired from research.

Questions:

What has happened with the great ape population that made Maria Cantwell want to make an act to protect apes?

When the act is passed would apes population begin to increase?

A word I don't understand: Biomedical Research

What is stoping you from understanding the word: I heard about the word in science class but don't know the actual definition.

Definition: The application of the natural sciences, especially the biological and physiological sciences, to clinical medicine.

Questions you can pose to peers in discussion: Would you try and help great apes population increase with the help of the act?

1.  The subject I most enjoy reading about is history because I think it is interesting to learn about things that has happened in the past and also to further educate us in the future.

2.  My favorite hobby is taking care of animals because I enjoy helping them feel protected.

3.  If I won the lottery, I would use the money to pay for my college tuition because I would like to go to a good college.

4.  The type of volunteer activity I prefer is helping out at a vet because I enjoy helping animals and I will like to become a vet.
